Grizzle Emcee - London Rapper

Sir Grizzle should be commended...if not for his rhymes then his ability to convince people to dress as a teabag.  I am guessing that he may be booting Nigella Lawson as Tetleys ambassador and taking the crown in the not too distant future. I had an actual LOL when I watched this vid.   I get the feeling that fella doesn't take himself too seriously, which is always refreshing in the world of hip hop...it certainly contributes to the success of Australian hip hop but that's another blog post on it's own.  For those who don't know, Grizzle is not new to the game as this is a return to music.  The boy looks dope in this clip, he is a writer over at UK blog The Daily Street so he obviously knows whats fresh. Grizzle is a fine representation of everything that is unique about London. That being current, original and tongue in cheek.

I'M HUNGRY... for the Detroit Lions Varsity jacket Eddie Murphy wears in Beverly Hills Cop. If you have it I'll buy it off you!

THE WORLD... is big and scary and pretty much always smells weird, but I love it - wouldn't have it any other way.

I HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED... wearing adult nappies daily - would make so life easier sometimes......

THE ULTIMATE DREAM...Is for my first car (I don't drive) to be a Bentley and I wont even drive it, it will be chauffeur driven. And just to make a living of what i love to do - its a cliche I know but cliche's are cliche's because they are dope and true. Also an ultimate dream is to just kick back with Jay Z somewhere chatting shit, having a drink and just talking about whatever - how sick would that be!

I CAN'T STAND... people who do not say thank you after you've held a door open for them. I also hate dog shit, at high school once some kid threw some in my ear - for some reason i found it funny but then I puked, it wasn't so funny then. It stank. Messed up

I LOVE... my friends and family and my girlfriend - there was a good chance I could of died this year and they where there for me every day - my girlfriend hardly left my hospital bedside the whole time I was all wired up.

I HATE... not being fresh and feeling uncomfortable. Like when you are talking to someone who you just met and straight away you already thinking 'this persons not for me'. I hate that. Being polite just because it's nice to be I also hate - if you don't like someone/something for any reason just say - keep it real, people appreciate honesty even when it hurts to hear it.

I LOVE MUSIC BECAUSE... it gave me a sense of personality when I was in my early teens. It lets me express myself in ways in which I never knew i could. I connect with music more than anything, I can find a part of my life that I can relate to almost any song - I like how people can share this, sharing experiences through a good song is something that you can't beat.

ORIGINALITY... is key and you can NOT fake it. People 'try' to be original all the time like they see it as this difficult thing to be?? Originality is easy, just be you and say what you want, wear what you want, think what you want and apply it how you want. Just be, and your originality will show.

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL... has very good taste and can spot whats good and great in this world from a mile off!
I am just impressed that you weren't tempted to rhyme Grizzle with Nizzle x

Pete from 'For the Homies'

Pete Le Chic is all in the name. Straight cut and sleek. Clothing with no mess and no fuss. Just like this post.

IN MY DREAMS ... I am a king. But there are no civilians in my castle just animals and we don't speak the same language so it's hard. Story of my fucking life.

I NEVER THOUGHT ... that music would play such a huge role in my life. I realised that I couldn't function without listening to different albums to help my energy or motivational levels throughout the day.  It's even better when you can share the experience with someone. Just lying on the floor with a girl listening to music is one of life's pleasures.

LATELY I HAVE WONDERED ... if this is it or will there be a surprise in the end?

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ALBUM IS ... Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest

THE SEXIEST THING EVER ... is slipping off a girls dress while she is still wearing heels.

I SWEAR ... ladies who are stuck up and worrying what others think is a straight up turn off.  Looks will only get you so far but a sense of style, personality and silky hair puts a tick in my book.

ADVICE FOR THE GUYS ... Get a haircut on the regular.  A leather jacket, white tshirt, raw denim jeans and some Clarks shoes is a good wardrobe starting point.  Wear clean clothes, shave your beard, cut and clean your fingernails and get a grown mans cologne. Thats it! It's pretty easy being a guy...

ORIGINALLY ... I thought I was gonna go out there and make the best pieces possible and people would love it!  Together with high quality came high quality prices...a luxury that only some could afford. It was Melbourne's DJ's that saved me and thats a fact! For a minute there you weren't a real DJ unless you had a Homies jacket haha! That led to touring bands/artists coming to me for custom pieces. I still love doing it and I'm proud of everything I make.

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL ... makes me never want to have a daughter ha ha!

OI! I'll have you know I am a great daughter!

KARA from Y'OH - Mens Street Wear Designer

My home girl from London is probably biting her little fingernails as we speak.  Tonight is the long awaited launch of her label Y'OH along side Kids of Grime.  Kara has one up on most mens street wear designers...as in she hasn't just screen printed someone else's design on the front of a t shirt that she copped from a bowl of rice in China. Miss Thang has comes from a high fashion background. She is a trained and experienced pattern maker and has spent nearly every waking hour not only researching her audience and finding out what they like, but absorbing the culture that surrounds the industry.  In other words baby girl got skill! In my short time on this earth I have learnt one important lesson, you cannot build a house on the sand and you cannot build success on someone else's unhappiness.  There is nothing but hard solid rock under this ladies house and everyone she comes into contact with leaves feeling a little happier. Sit up and take note and act like you know 'cause although it's only the beginning, Y'OH is already building a foundation for longevity.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT MEN'S FASHION?

Men are much better shoppers than women (shocked face!) they notice the subtle details and think in terms of longevity. The fact they generally have less items which they wear for longer periods of time means that men have a much more consistent look and through that they can articulate their persona a lot better than women who tend to change their style seasonally. I think it would be better if women did that…buy less and spend more on classic long lasting pieces.

Designing menswear comes more naturally to me. There's a lot more room for it develop so I guess even subtle changes can be quiet radical. For example the Y-shirt ( a cross between a shirt and a long sleeve tee) isn't crazy, in fact it's as plain as you can get, but the fact that it's not jersey makes it radical.

The Queen of Lime Crime

I while back I interviewed Doe Deere from LimeCrime cosmetics for YEN which went to print, and I discovered it on their site as well a couple of days ago. I'm all for double exposure :)

Lime Crime do reeedeeeekulos lipstick colours in blue, yellow and more Barbie pink than Barbies tiny little plastic pussy. You should check it out and colour your face in here and read the chat I had with Doe Deere - the lady behind it all here

K R E /\ Y S H /\ \/\/ N

I always have to write KREAYSHAWN in capitol letters.  Peep her website and watch her video's and you'll see that there is nothing lower case about this broad from Cali who has her manicured fingers in so many pies.  This includes video maker, music, photographer...to name but a few. Heavily tattooed, gold bling a ling and mouth like a sewer, KREAYSHAWN is balling through life in flurry of colour and knocking people off fences all over the place. You are gonna love it or you gonna hate it, and she really doesn't give a shit. I dunno, I guess it's the same reason I love Ms Fitz so much, girls with confidence and attitude but with the goods to back it up. Let me tell you, this is a fucking rarity. The internet and the cut and paste button has made the process of biting and stealing ideas all that much easier.  With so many pseudo creatives  around, you have to look a bit harder for the real deal. But as they say, cream always rises and home girl KREAYSHAWN is a tall can of cool whip.

I AM ... A Kreayshawn or k234y5h4wn. A rare and sometimes timid animal. Plays very nicely but has a mean streak. A under-cat in the game.

AND I AM ALL ABOUT... Directing and editing music videos. Beasting out as a female MC. Killin tha hoes with tha swag and spreading kreative love joy thru my powers of a humble muse.

WHEN SHIT GETS REAL... I pull out tha pistol and crack a bitch over the head.

A COMMON THOUGHT... I think often about how much money I have and if its enough to pay rent on my bachelor pad apt in Los Angeles.. I don't have a steady income other then directing videos and the shows I just started doing.

THE THING I LOVE THE MOST... I love my two kitty's so much. I'm outta town so much I'm never home to cuddle with them! I'm a crazy cat lady. I have two kitty's.. I rent them their own apt just to play and eat in. I also love a lot of things from anime to sipping promethazine on a warm summer evening on 82nd and Birch in East Oakland (which is my hometown that I love!)

A SLUT... A slut is no friend of mines! We put em on the track so they can get this dough. V-Nasty tell dem hoes what ta do.

IF I COULD GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE... I know its cheezy to say but, you can really achieve anything with positive mind sets. You can manifest your own destiny.

I AM IN LOVE... Omg I wish I was in love. I'm fuckin ice box where my heart used to be ass bitch!

IMAGINE... December 21 2012.. Mass hysteria as natural disasters strike every continent. Rioting.. Burning alive.. Skeletons riding horses that are flying in the air as they taunt you. Gasses are being released from exploded plants near by. Cellphones don't work. Computers don't work. I'm be in Canada though... Its gonna be chill.

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL... The obnoxious owl had me up all night. Had to smoke em out till she passed out.

Keep going girl. Love Owl x

GOLD PANDA - Musician

panda ears
I would just like to start off by saying that I am rubbish at life. I hung out with Panda over 6 weeks ago and I am only posting now. Truth is?  I lost my notes. Yes I know...I'm a winner.  Anyway, onwards!
When asking Derwin aka Gold Panda where his panda ears were, he replied, 'I'm 30 years old now, I can't wear a panda hat anymore'. Are you ever too old to wear a panda hat? I don't think so. Asking him where the name came from he said he just picked a colour and then he picked an animal and that's about it really.  I get the distinct impression from Panda, that he dislikes a lot of fuss and gets irritated when things are over complicated.
See, I'm not a big electronic music fan...to me, it kinda sounds like someone is sending a text with the sound on...almost like a series of noises, beeps and blips just for the sake of throwing them in, sometimes I think if you closed your eyes you swear someone was tryna clock an old Atari game. What can I say? I like my music to have a bit of warmth, and Panda's series of electronic sounds definitely have more of a melody running through it.  It's clean and strong, and certainly had me going.

GRIFFIN - Founder of WATKYKJY.CO.ZA

Unless you have been surfing the waves of the internet with your eyes closed, you would have heard about Die Antwoord.  The South African site WATKYKJY (What are you looking at?) were main players in the MADNESS that is the success of the South African rap duo.  I have been following Griffin from WATKYKJY for ages on twitter as I am both fascinated and incredibly proud of the talent that is coming out of my homeland.  In my opinion, the views and opinions that come from this man and most of the creative people that bounce from his site do more for our fucked up country than any knob end that is currently sitting in parliament. Not since Nelson Mandela have we had such positive change.  I think Griffin and his friends are not only part of but have started the revolution that is so needed in our complex land....and if you don't agree well, that's because you not on their level.  There is not an intro that I could type that could compete with the great chat I had with the man himself. So please, read on. (non Sowf Efricens, I will try to translate for you OK lovies?)

Let’s get straight to it, tell me about Die Antwoord? How long did you know them? When did you decide to give them a link on your blog?
I briefly met them a couple of years earlier (like 10 years ago) when they were still fucking around with different styles but we got together around 3 years ago when I interviewed them for Watkykjy. It was like the band was born straight from our website, becuase they were totally everything that was zef. Ninja told me that Watkykjy sort of inspired their band and that Yo-Landi has been into the website for a long time, so I gave them "homework". As a joke I told them to write a song called Watkykjy. Ninja phoned me like a week later and rapped the whole song to me over the phone. It was fokken insane. Well, actually, he didn't phone me. They didn't have money so I would get text messages or "please-call-me's" (these are messages you can send for free in SA when you have no phone credit, who says we third world?!, Owl) to phone them back. They fokken still do that! Back then they were so poor that they slept on the floor, so I helped them out by buying flights on my credit card to come play gigs in Joburg and Pretoria.

They stayed at over at my house, but I was a bit of a doos (cunt) - I got so drunk at their gigs on two occasions that Ninja had to drive my car back home. Their gigs were so fokken next level that they made dik zak (heaps of $$$) and they paid me back. I put up their first album on Watkykjy for people to download for free for a couple of months, because they didn't have an interwebiste at that stage. It worked fokken well, because everyone knew all the lyrics to their songs at every gig.

ILLY - Australian rapper and man of substance

After minutes when chatting with Illy you realize that he is not your average member of the Aus hip hop world. He has relative and thought provoking things to say and while he is no stranger to the treats and parties that come with the world in which he has become a solid player , it is not what he is all about and he is, as they say, IN it and not OF it. I think that unlike many, Al (real name innit) is building his house on the rocks rather than the sand...what with four months away from finishing his law degree (!) and conducting himself in a manner which both earns him respect for his integrity as well as for being no stranger in getting loose.  This approach I think definitely comes through in his music. Like, I am the only real hip hop lover amongst my large ish group of very indie/electro loving friends. These guys, who would usually turn their little hipster noses up to most Aus hip hop, have always made Illy an exception. He will be touring the country starting on the 20th Feb...it is totally worth checking it out. No Perth dates as yet...but the man tells me that dates are still to be announced. Before we hear more from fella, I wanna give him mad Owl props for his TripleJ Top 100 entry! Next time you're in Perthetic mate,  Imma buy you a drink with an umbrella in it to celebrate.

NUMBER 29 ... was where I came on the triple j hottest 100 this year with my song "It Can Wait", which features Owl Eyes, ironically.

HIP HOP IN AUSTRALIA ... is on the up and up, and getting bigger each year.  It's been exciting seeing the genre establish legitimacy within the Australian music scene over the last 8 or so years, and I think its only going to get bigger.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM ... with ketamine is its scarcity.

THE THING I AM MOST PROUD OF ... My latest album "The Chase" (plug), the culmination of years and years of work to reach that standard musically, and the fact that i stayed in school and will finish uni in 4 months. But most of all my family, in particular my mum, who is the strongest person I have ever met.

KANYE WEST ... is a genius. Anyone who thinks differently is entitled to their opinion, but we have fundamental differences in what defines an amazing pop artist.

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND ... people who hate something so much they are compelled to criticise loudly, but don't hate that thing enough to actively do anything about it.

I TAKE BIGGEST INSPIRATION FROM ... my family, people that have supported me, and people I admire. And chronic fear of failure is also quite a good motivator, I've found.

IT ALWAYS MAKES ME LAUGH ... thinking about some of the shit that's gone down on tours over the years.

IF I WASN'T DOING THIS... I would be a lawyer. Thank fucking God I'm doing this.

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL ..put me on to Mercyndol's last time I was in Perth. Over the counter bender cures. cheers babe

Ha! That's me! Perth's 'go to' girl for pain relief. See you soon buddy, Love Owl x

The band HEALTH give us their opinion

Yes everyone, I had a bit of a blip there for a second, well...more like a fucking week.  SPAM was a bastard and got into the crevices of the Owl and NOT in a good way I might add.  But hey, I'm back now and it's like it never happened. And just in time mind you, because I had a 'lil chat with LA band HEALTH and gave them a few situations with which they provided me with the tune best fitting. Did you see them on their Aus tour? How good were they!!!

Scooter - Crank it up

BEST SONG TO FUCK TO:
Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent)

BEST SONG TO MAKE TACO'S WITH EXTRA CHEESE TO:
Ennio Morricone - Ad Ogni Costo

ULTIMATE LULLABY:
Black Sabbath - Solitude

IF YOU WERE TO GET MARRIED, YOU WOULD HAVE THIS AS YOUR FIRST DANCE:

THE MOST DEPRESSING TUNE EVER WRITTEN:
Shangri La's - I never go home anymore

OR

That song where Britney kills herself in the bathtub.

THAT TRACK THAT YOU ARE PERSONALLY MOST PROUD OF:
Enigma - Sadeness

OUT OF ALL THE CHRISTMAS CAROLS, WHICH DON'T YOU MIND SO MUCH?
Silent Night

IF THE OBNOXIOUS OWL WERE A SONG, SHE WOULD BE:
Bamboo - Bamboobie (Radio Edit)

Wanna do a little dance and make a little love? Love Owl x

ALEX SYNAMATIX - Editor of The Daily Street

The Daily Street is a 100% UK relevant blog that Alex and his mates created after the frustration of surfing through blogs, finding great products and then discovering they were unavailable in the UK. Hmmm....people of Western Australia might be able to relate. So in the week long summer of '09 (sorry, shameless poke at your shitty weather) the boys put this beast together.  After spending the better part of my twenties in London I have come to be passionate about all things British and have even been caught calling the place 'home'. I find the music, fashion, humor and now blogs have a certain realness to them, less bullshit if you will, in comparison to others. The Daily Street is easy to navigate, to the point and on the pulse.  Oxford born Alex went to Westminster University in London where he studied Commercial Music, which was handy because he loves to DJ and has done for 7 years. From what I can tell via the ever so trusty twitter, he is also partial to a good cup of coffee. Like, all the time. Even at night. I guess a caffeine addiction might be necessary in order to run a blog as fresh as The Daily Street.  Read more from Alex after the jump...

These girls run your town and you don't even know it!

The extremely sassy Alex Weiland, editor of Acclaim and Mayoress with the mostess did a Q&A on ME! I love the Mayorettes and I have a well of pride to have anything to do with their blog. Big air kiss from the West Coast my honey dips! x

DaM FUNK - Musician / Funk Professional / Gentleman

I have spoken to a lot of creative people on O.Owl and I have come to find that those who have achieved the most are often the most humble. LA born and raised Dam Funk (pronounced ‘Dame’ from ‘Damon’) is an example of such a person.  From the beginning to the end of our chat on New Year’s Day he was generous with his time and easy to talk to. I approached him a little while before he brought in 2011 here in Western Australia and was so willing to be part of this little blog. I first saw DaM Funk perform at Glastonbury back in June and my 2011 started off mighty funky, with Damon being minimally effected by the tropical heat in the zero air conditioned room -  he was there to do a job, and that was to bring the funk and that is what he delivered.  He was amongst a solid line up alongside Flying Lotus and Gaslamp Killer, but his Aerial Pink remix was the talk of the night. We all know the man has style and the ‘funk’ analogies are endless, but what I was most impressed by, was his chivalry and manners. Leaving his company on the first day of 2011, the man with the G steeze of Ice T and the charisma of Prince has set the standard in my expectations of people for the rest of the year.

MUSIC ... is my best friend.

IF I WERE TO HAVE ONLY ONE RECORD ... it would probably be "Don't Leave Me Baby" by Mazarati (B-side only/flip-side of "100 MPH", recorded in 1985, released on Prince's Paisley Park label & was produced by The Revolution member Brownmark).

WHEN I AM PERFORMING ... I'm not 'Damon'. I'm 'DāM-FunK'.

I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT ... to NOT be an arrogant, spoiled ass, bitch made, buster in the game.

THE BIGGEST EYE OPENER FOR ME ... when I saw a UFO.

IF I WEREN'T DOING THIS, I'D BE ... a meteorologist, an astronaut, or a freeway designer/engineer. Either 1 of those.

FUNK ... is NOT some silly fad. It's a way of life.

AUSTRALIA HAS BEEN ... Fantastic. *For real!

2011 WILL BE ... The enlightening countdown to 2012.

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL ... is NOT a 'girl', or just some 'chick'. She's a 'lady'.

........enjoy the rest of your stay, Australia loves you! Owl x

DEAN WALKER - Menswear Buyer for Van Mildert

Funny Story of how I met Dean actually. Picture Glastonbury music festival.  Picture 35 degree heat. Picture me and my lovely photographer friend Beck after 5 days with no shower, sleep and minimal brain cells.  This was the day we decided to do the story for a magazine.  Yes. Why would we pick the first day when everyone and everything is fresh and we are normal, functioning human beings?  I'll tell you why, because had we been sensible, we would have never have found Mister Dean Walker looking all 'Johnny Depp esque' whilst purchasing an ice cream ... exhibit A ...

360 - Aus Rapper

I got to know 360 through Social Networks. Hey! don't judge, it's how all the kids do it these days, plus I know nothing about the Australian hip hop scene, so thanks to Sixty's wit and ridiculousness on twitter I have become familiar. You can't doubt the man's talent...check out this GOT BEEF battle and tell me I'm wrong.

So read on a little chat I had with him, and hit him up! Ask him to sign your boobs, he'll love it.

WHENEVER I ... hear someone say they prefer smooth peanut butter over crunchy I wanna smack them in the mouth.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE ... Australia made was taking Dr pepper out of most stores

FUCK ... like a rockstar

I WILL NEVER ... say never.. damn

BUT I WILL ALWAYS ... say never... fuck

IF I ... miss out on seeing Miike Snow live I will kill everyone

THE OBNOXIOUS OWL ... is a mad bitch and she will bash you and take your shoes

Or bash you with your shoes, Love Owl x

TIFFANY RHODES - Creator of BUTCHDIVA

Fuck. Sorry to start this with a cuss but HOT DAMN I love BUTCHDIVA!!  I was even pretty reluctant to share this label with ya'll because I wanted to keep it for myself, but then me and Tiffany got talking, and she is such a diva herself, that I wanna shout it out from the rooftop.  I love clothes. I love colour. I love statements. If Obnoxious Owl were to come back as an item of clothing, it would probs be a BUTCHDIVA jumpsuit.  Hell, MOTEL 7 even dressed the cartoon me in spandex in my new banner...it's a perfect fit.  Tiffany Rhodes is the creator behind this punk ass brand, she is Brooklyn born and raised and she has been designing and sewing since she was but a child and has been turning out these spandex wonders for the last 3 years.  I wish she didn't live so far away so I could just hang in her amazing creative space and smother myself in spandex all day long! I copped a few pieces...I was gonna show you some pics of me in it, but I'm wearing THE most amazing piece of ButchDiva on NYE, so hold up for that post.  I relate so much to Ms Rhodes vision...read on and see why...

Sarah Woolley - A Retro Doll

Last month I attended the Wheels and Dollbaby fashion show and I gave it a bit of a slaying, not because I'm not an admirer of the sex that IS the pin up girl steeze.  I just like it done right...and oh my, does Sarah bring it home!  This flame haired creature caught my eye at fore mentioned fashion parade...she was the best thing about the damn thing.  I mean, just LOOK at her!  It's like The Little Mermaid came to life or some shit...um, Ariel? Is that you?
